The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) introduced a smartphone app for travelers on Friday that would enable users to produce Delhi metro QR paperless online tickets. The smartphone application enables travelers to buy tickets online and get a QR code, which they can scan at Delhi Metro stations to travel in the metro.
“DMRC launched a dedicated mobile app for its passengers called ‘DMRC TRAVEL APP‘ in order to generate convenient and hassle-free mobile QR tickets for travel across its network.” Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD/DMRC, officially launched the app today in the presence of key authorities,” DMRC stated in a tweet.
“With this new mobile App, passengers can now purchase tickets directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need to go to ticket counters/vending machines or stand in queues,” said the metro administration.
Passengers will now be able to experience a quick and efficient ticketing process, saving them significant time while traveling. The program supports a variety of payment options, including UPI, credit/debit cards, and digital wallets, giving users choice and convenience.
Passengers may choose their favorite payment method and easily complete the purchase right inside the application.
Furthermore, the smartphone application includes functions such as a journey planner, fare calculator, station information, and smart card recharge. To offer such a user-friendly, cashless, and rapid manner of ticketing, DMRC changed the AFC Gates on all of its corridors without ever closing them for a single day.

For the time being, the ‘DMRC TRAVEL’ App is only accessible to Android users, however, it is scheduled to be available for iOS users shortly.

“The phone-based QR code ticketing technology has been approved for use on the Delhi Metro network.” However, as a first step, internal testing of this new technology is being conducted. Officials estimate that 75% of DMRC passengers presently use smart cards to ride on the Delhi Metro. How to Use a QR Code on a Paper Ticket in the Delhi Metro
- Purchase a non-refundable QR-based Paper Ticket at the Ticket Vending Machine or Customer Care Counter at the station where you wish to begin your trip.
- Within 60 minutes after purchasing the ticket, scan the QR code on the ticket at the entrance gate. You may only enter from the station where you purchased your ticket.
- If you do not scan the ticket within 60 minutes, it becomes invalid and you must purchase a new one.
- When you arrive at your destination station, scan the ticket again at the departure gate.
Rules for Using a Paper Ticket with a QR Code for the Delhi Metro
- A QR-based Paper Ticket may only be purchased for a particular station pair, i.e., from one station to another.
- You must leave from the same station as your destination. If you wish to leave another station, you must do the following:
- If you depart at a station other than your destination, you must get a free exit ticket from the Customer Care operator and show them your QR-based Paper Ticket.
- If you depart at a station other than your destination, you must pay an additional price equivalent to the difference in cost. The Customer Care representative will provide you with an exit ticket while keeping your QR-based Paper Ticket.
- A phone picture or duplicate of a QR-based Paper Ticket is not permitted. If you do this, you will be regarded to have no valid ticket and will be fined in accordance with DMRC regulations.
Notably, DMRC is issuing QR-based Paper Tickets station-by-station, that is, from one station to another. Passengers will benefit from a more convenient, smooth, time-saving, and error-free travel experience.
The Delhi Metro also plans to introduce smartphone QR tickets by the end of this month. This will make Metro travel even quicker, simpler, and more convenient since commuters will no longer have to purchase actual tickets at stations or counters.
